JPJH BAND UPDATE

I hope everyone has been enjoying a relaxing summer break. I wanted to reach out to update you all about some changes taking place in the fall.

As many of you know, my wife was diagnosed with cancer back in September. Things have been progressing, and we are now at a point where we will need to travel out of state for treatment on a weekly basis.

As much as I hate to say it, I am not going to be able to continue teaching in the fall. Instead, I will return to performance full time. This will allow me to have more time at home (and on the road) with my wife and more income to cover travel and treatment expenses. Please express to your kids that I really love them, and that I'll miss them very much. I wish I didn't have to go. My heart is in teaching, but I have to make the best decision for my students as well as my family at this time.

The good news is that we have a new director coming in who is going to do a wonderful job! Harrison Dollar is starting at Juban Parc in the fall, and I'm confident that he will do great work. I asked him to type a brief intro, and I will include it below.

Lastly, just want to say thank you to my students, parents, and coworkers for helping me get through the most difficult year of my career. You have all been wonderful to work with. I can't wait to see all of the awesome things the JPJH Band does with Mr. Dollar!

A Note From Mr. Dollar

"Hello! I'm Mr. Dollar, the new band director at Juban Parc Jr. High. I'm excited to start making music with you! A little about myself; I grew up in Gonzales, LA and have been in the greater Baton Rouge area my entire life. I graduated from LSU in 2020 with a 4.0 GPA. While getting my degree, I taught beginning musicians for an after school program in EBR called Kids Orchestra. I also frequently visited middle school programs in the area (including Juban Parc!) to teach sectionals and private lessons. I grew to love working with young musicians and helping them have fun and develop strong fundamentals on their instruments. I have seen the success of the band program at Juban Parc over the years, and I am looking forward to supporting and continuing the excellence that is already established. If you have any questions (or would just like to introduce yourself), please feel free to contact me at harrison.dollar@lpsb.org Best, Harrison Dollar
